Ticket Agent Flexible, fun, customer service-oriented part-time hourly position. Full or half day shifts available Thursday through Sunday and other days as needed. The agent is responsible for opening and/or closing the museum property, selling tickets and point of sale customer service. Responsibilities: Unlocking and opening the various doors of the depot and Building 1. Unlocking the three-car string in Building 2, turning on their lights, unlocking the caboose in the RTE building, and immediately prior to open, turning on the lights in Building 1. Stocking the restrooms as needed. Assembling the ticket office/gatehouse: installing the moveable shelves and various signage elements, setting up point of sale system, and staging numerous other items needed for the ticketing operation. Raising the American flag. Understanding and properly applying the numerous ticketing options, such as library passes, military/fire/first responder admissions, RR employee admissions, extra train rides, pre-school program admissions, etc. Confirming the starting cash count and initializing the POS system before beginning tickets sales. At end of day, reconciling cash on hand with recorded sales and closing the point of sale system. On Sundays, assembling the weekly bank deposit from the Thursday through Sunday dailies and taking it, along with the gift shop’s weekly bank deposit, to our local bank’s night drop upon leaving Interacting with the train crews regarding the rides available to visitors. Responding to visitor inquiries regarding the museum’s displays and exhibits and answering the museum’s telephone. At the end of the day, closing down the property by reversing the above physical procedures. Opening and closing the museum requires roughly 30-45 mins for each cycle. Confirming all visitors have exited the property prior to locking the main gates. Skills: The ticket agent / gatehouse position is the first point of contact for our visitors and he or she thus must exhibit a welcoming, friendly, and helpful demeanor at all times. Must be fully comfortable interacting with our visitors and in meeting their needs. Must be able to work well with other museum volunteers and staff. Must be able to take prompt initiative in non-routine and/or emergency situations.
