History Cherokee is seeking a full time Collections and Exhibits Manager to manage its current collection as well as permanent and temporary exhibits at the Cherokee County History Center. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment, have excellent writing and communication skills, have a passion and curiosity for local history.
The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following: Collections: • Day-to-day management of the permanent collection (objects, archives, resource library), including internal movement and storage of objects • Maintain all collections records, including database records: accessions, deaccessions, donor files, loans, condition reports, etc. • Responsible for research on collections and related topics • Pursues external funding in collaboration with Development staff for collections management • Responsible for completion of the ongoing inventory and new permanent collection storage plan Exhibitions: • In collaboration with the Education Manager and other staff, responsible for the development, implementation, installation, and interpretation of up to three temporary exhibitions per year • Pursues external funding in collaboration with Development staff for exhibition activity • Organizes and implements plans for installation and de-installation of exhibits • Oversees preparation of exhibition labels, brochures, text panels, and other education materials • Maintains and updates current permanent exhibitions
Minimum Qualifications • B.A. in related field, such as Museum Studies, History, or Anthropology required, M.A. preferred • Minimum of one year experience with CatalogIt collection management software preferred • Proficiency with desktop publishing software such as InDesign, Canva or Publisher • Minimum of one year experience in museum methodology and collections management experience required, and understanding of museum legal and ethical issues • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects • Ability to work creatively with staff and volunteers in a team approach in planning and implementation of museum activities • Preparator experience highly desirable
Cherokee County, Georgia is nestled between metro Atlanta and the scenic Chattahoochee National Forest with historic communities and multiple cultural and recreational opportunities. The Cherokee County School District is one of the top in the state and nation.
The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday with a 37.5-hour work week but the position will require occasional night, weekend, or holiday hours as needed. Starting salary is $38,000-$42,000 with benefits, including three weeks PTO, and 401(k). History Cherokee is an equal opportunity employer.
