    History Cherokee is seeking a qualified museum educator to oversee the educational interpretation of the collections and exhibits and continue a diverse and engaging calendar of programs for a variety of audiences at the Cherokee County History Center. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a highly collaborative environment, have excellent writing and communication skills, have a passion and curiosity for local history.

    The job duties of this position include but are not limited to the following: • Create engaging educational programming that meets the needs of the History Center’s audience, including adults, families, seniors and those with special interests or needs • Strengthen the interpretive plan for History Center that includes educational school tours and summer camps that meets the Georgia Performance Standards • Collaborate with the collections staff to ensure accurate interpretation of collections and exhibits • Manage and coordinate staff and volunteers to assist with group tours and educational programming • Work with the Marketing and Communications Manager to promote all programming events • Serve as a liaison with community groups to strengthen existing partnerships, collaborate on interdisciplinary programming, and encourage museum visitation • Oversee Visitor Services to collect visitation data and ensure an enjoyable experience for museum guests

    Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in related field, such as Museum Studies or Education required, Master’s degree preferred • Previous experience in creating and implementing innovative programming, both in-person and digital, for the purpose of connecting the community to local history and the collection • Experience in public speaking, lecturing, training, guided tours, or other related experience working with the public • Friendly, helpful and courteous; must be enthusiastic about the tours and programs created and implemented • Ability to work with large groups independently and professionally. • Ability to problem-solve • Desire to educate visitors about the historical significance of Cherokee County • Ability to work with diverse audiences • Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers in a team approach in planning and implementation of museum activities

    Cherokee County, Georgia is nestled between metro Atlanta and the scenic Chattahoochee National Forest with historic communities and multiple cultural and recreational opportunities. The Cherokee County School District is one of the top in the state and nation.

    The regular work schedule is Monday through Friday with a 37.5-hour work week but the position will require occasional night, weekend, or holiday hours as needed. Starting salary is $38,000-$42,000 with benefits, including three weeks PTO, and 401(k). History Cherokee is an equal opportunity employer.
