    The museum assistant position performs a variety of administrative tasks in support of the daily operations at the Harlem Museum and Welcome Center to include interacting with the general public to provide information regarding the Museum and the City of Harlem. Part-time duties include maintaining of related records, learning about Laurel & Hardy and Harlem history, retail sales of gift shop items, receiving inventory, setting up merchandise displays as well as displays in the museum. We are looking for someone with an outgoing personality that will interact well with other personnel and the public to provide a positive experience for all. This position is required to participate in events put on by the City (Oliver Hardy Festival, Christmas in Downtown Harlem, Summer Movie Series, etc.). This position reports directly to the Harlem Museum/Visitor Center Director. The minimum starting pay is $15.76 per hour.

    The Museum/Visitor Center is open Tuesday - Saturday from 10:30 - 4:00. The hours for this position may be up to 35 hours per week with a varying schedule; there will be some Saturday hours.

    Preferred Qualifications: A bachelor's degree in history, public history, or a related field. Basic knowledge of how to use a cash register. Prior knowledge of Laurel & Hardy and/or the film industry, especially the Golden Age of Hollywood. Event coordination knowledge.
