The curator is responsible for the day-to-day management of the SRS Cold War artifact collection including overseeing a Curation facility; records maintenance, inventory, accessioning and loans of the artifacts; setting program initiatives, identifying collection and conservation policies, working on exhibits and interpretation, and serving as part of a team dedicated to preserving SRS’ Cold War history. The curator is assisted by a part-time curator.
Duties and Responsibilities Include:
- Proper object handling, storage, and documentation when working with archives and artifacts.
- Inventory and database maintenance.
- Scheduling and assisting with tours.
- Research and development of exhibits.
- Supervising interns, as needed.
- Monitoring Curation Facility environment
Minimum Job Requirements
- MA in museum studies or related field preferred but a BA or Certificate in History, Museum Studies or related subject area is warranted.
- Preferred two years of museum, artifact, or exhibits-related experience in professional environment.
- Need to be able to perform moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds and standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- The ideal candidate will enjoy working independently, taking initiative and prioritizing tasks. Strong organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail are key.
- Candidate must have strong interoffice communication skills, and professional demeanor to work with a variety of people, within the SRS community and the public.
- Candidate must have strong writing skills.
- Enthusiasm to learn the Savannah River Site History and gain a basic understanding of technical topics.
- Database knowledge is needed, Re: Discovery experience is preferred.
